The razing of communist hero Lenin’s statue was vandalized in Tripura on Monday – an act condoned by some of the BJP leaders. In West Bengal, a statue of Shyama Prasad Mukherjee’s (founder of the Jan Sangh) statue was vandalized by BJP party. After vandalized these statues, BJP National Secretary H.Raja posted his Facebook page,”Today it is Lenin in Tripura, tomorrow in Tamil Nadu (it will be) casteist Periyar statue.”
Following the Facebook post on Tuesday, Periyar statue was vandalized in Vellore, Tamil Nadu. Police have increased security for the statues across the State. A few hours after a statue of Periyar has been vandalized in Vellore, a few petrol bombs were thrown at the BJP office in Gandhipuram in Coimbatore. It was captured on CCTV camera. CCTV shows that four men were arriving on two bikes and throwing the petrol bombs outside the party office. No one was hurt in this attack. This attack has happened at 3:30 am on Wednesday.
Many Tamilnadu party leaders and members protest against on H.Raja’s post. And also the celebrities protest against H.Raja’s post. On Wednesday, H.Raja issued a clarification on the social media post that announced a removal of Dravidar Kazhagam founder Periyar E.V. Ramasamy’s statue in Tamilnadu.
Mr.Raja said that the post was published on social media “Without his Permission”. He also said,”The admin of my page published the statement without my permission that all Periyar statues should be removed in Tamilnadu. So, I’ve removed the post. It was not my intention to hurt anyone’s feelings. If it did, I regret”.
