Gaja cyclone has crossed Tamilnadu and Puducherry coast areas in the early morning of Friday (12:00 am to 2:30 am). India Meteorological Department reported that the Gaja storm has brought heavy rainfall in Nagapattinam, Vedaranyam, Thanjavur, Pudukottai and Tiruvarur districts with a wind speed of 100-110kmph. This storm wreaked havoc in Sivagangai and Trichy district also.
11 people have died of this severe cyclone storm Gaja in Tamilnadu. In Sivagangai district, a 56-year-old man identified as Muthukumaran was killed when a wall collapsed on him. A 64-year-old Auto driver was dead when a tree fell on him in Trichy. Six people were found dead in Nagapattinam and Tiruvarur districts – five people were dead by wall collapse and one person was electrocuted. And the other deaths were not identified.
Gaja cyclone damages:
Gaja cyclone damaged many houses and rip-out many electric poles and many trees. This storm damaged 46 power supply substations in Nagapattinam, Cuddalore, Pudukottai, Karaikal, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur and Trichy districts. The government stated that the power supply restoring will take at least two days in all these districts.

Nagapattinam district faced many damages because of the cyclone. Traffic was affected due to the trees fell on the road. Mobile communication network was disrupted and disconnected. Seawater overflows into many small villages in Nagapattinam districts. Trichy flights were redirected to Kochi and trains have been stopped temporarily due to this storm.
Erode, Karur, Dindigul, Madurai and Coimbatore districts received heavy rainfall in this morning. These districts will have heavy rainfall in the rest of the day. Coimbatore district got continuous rainfall since this morning. Gaja cyclone will be expected to cross Tamilnadu districts and Kerala districts and finally ends its journey in the Arabian Sea.
The government declared a holiday for all schools and colleges in Coimbatore, Nagapattinam, Erode, Karur, Trichy, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Trichy, Madurai, Dindigul, Theni, Ariyalur, Pudukottai districts on Friday.
